Community Service

Church Without Walls expresses its commitment to the Berkeley community by living, working and sending our kids to school here, and through a range of volunteer service activities. Examples include literacy coaching, math tuturoing, helping repair homes for the elderly and working with community partners to mitigate youth truancy.

Church Without Walls has partnered with Berkeley Organizing Congregations for Action (BOCA) to create a Local Organizing Committee (LOC). The LOC is a group of people within CWOW who are exploring and spearheading efforts to address injustice in our community. The CWOW LOC is currently focusing on two areas: youth/education and poverty/homelessness.

This spring, CWOW once again partners with Rosa Parks Elementary for WordPower and MathPower, an academic support program that CWOW helped launch three years ago. We are seeking volunteers to tutor K-2nd grade students in reading, or work 1-on-1 with a 3rd-5th grade student in math for 7 weeks.  The program begins on February 15th with a training, and runs on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:45.  Come get involved!  For more info, contact Rena Crocker at 644-8537 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
