Creation Care Blog #8: Don’t buy the Charmin
Hi church,
In the beginning, God gave humanity a sacred job. We get to “serve and protect” (Gen 2:15) the good creation God has lovingly shared with us. For most of human history, that was an intimate, earthy calling that involved getting dirt under one’s fingernails and corralling wayward sheep.
But in an age of globalized everything, Amazon Prime, and viruses that spread thousands of miles in days, creation care can look surprising.
For example, I learned recently that something as innocent as nice, soft TP is guilty of destroying Canadian old-growth forests. These irreplaceable trees are essential to slowing carbon buildup that is throwing our planet into crisis.
So while it’s hard to know how to stop the Amazon from burning, it’s easy to “serve and protect” Northern boreal ecosystems: shift to buying green TP. All it takes is a click.
Thoughts?
Peace,
Gary
People might be interested to know that Trader Joe’s TP (not the soft kind, just the normal one) is 100% recycled. So that way, people don’t have to buy TP from Amazon. 🙂

Thanks Paulina. I’ll take a second look at TJs. I guess I’m just used to buying it in bulk 🙂
My household likes this company too!

You can either buy 100% recycled or TP made from bamboo. They also donate half their profits to build toilets around the world.
They are an Australian company, but products ship from inside California with no plastic.
